The Lion Parkson Foundation, under The Lion Group, is contributing MYR 3.3 million to the Handicapped & Mentally Disabled Children Association Johor Bahru to help the Association build a similar home in Selangor.

The MYR 3.3 million comprises a cash donation of MYR 1.4 million to purchase a piece of land of 4.17 acres in Banting, Selangor, and another MYR 1.9 million to build a home cum learning centre for the special children, under the first phase. The home is proposed to be built over three phases and when fully completed, will be able to accommodate 300 children.

The MYR 1.4 million is contributed by companies under The Lion Group while the MYR 1.9 million was raised from the 'Million Dollar Dance Grand Finale Charity Show' staged by the Foundation's chairman Mr Puan Sri Chelsia Cheng on February 8th 2009 at the Bintang Circle in Pavilion Kuala Lumpur.

At a cheque presentation ceremony on October 13th 2009, Mr Puan Sri Chelsia Cheng presented a cheque for MYR 320,000 being the initial payment of the Foundation’s contribution to Mr S Murugaiyah Jeevah VP of Handicapped & Mentally Disabled Children Association Johor Bahru.

The Lion Parkson Foundation was launched in 1990 to administer and disburse funds for various needs such as education, charity and scientific research. To date, the Foundation has sponsored a total of 357 students through various sponsorship programmes worth MYR 7.5 million. In addition, the Foundation has also contributed another MYR 9.6 million towards other causes, making a total contribution of MYR 17.1 million to date.
