
According to the data published by Eurostat and the National Institute of Statistics, in October 2010 as compared with September 2010, the euro area industrial new orders index rose by 1.4%. In September 2010, the index fell by 4.2%. In the EU 27, new orders increased by 0.6% in October 2010, after a decrease of 2.5% in September.
Excluding ships, railway & aerospace equipment4, for which changes tend to be more volatile, industrial new orders increased by 0.9% in the euro area and by 0.8% in the EU 27.
In October 2010 as compared with October 2009, industrial new orders grew by 14.8% in the euro area and by 14.3% in the EU 27. Total industry excluding ships, railway & aerospace equipment4 rose by 14.4% in both zones.
In October 2010 as compared with September 2010, new orders for durable consumer goods rose by 5.0% in the euro area and by 4.1% in the EU 27. Non durable consumer goods increased by 1.6% and 1.3% respectively. Intermediate goods gained 1.3% in the euro area and 1.1% in the EU 27. Capital goods grew by 1.3% in the euro area, but fell by 0.2% in the EU 27.
Among the Member States for which data are available, total manufacturing working on orders rose in fifteen and fell in eleven. The highest increases were registered in Lithuania (+16.0%), Latvia (+9.8%) and Greece (+9.5%), and the largest decreases in Hungary (-6.8%), Luxembourg (-3.6%) and Belgium (-2.7%).
In October 2010 as compared with October 2009, new orders for capital goods rose by 18.2% in the euro area and by 17.2% in the EU27. Intermediate goods increased by 16.0% and 15.3% respectively. Non durable consumer goods grew by 3.7% in the euro area and by 3.1% in the EU27. Durable consumer goods gained 2.3% and 6.4% respectively.
Among the Member States for which data are available, total manufacturing working on orders rose in twenty-five and fell only in Denmark (-2.0%). The highest increases were registered in Estonia (+58.3%), Lithuania (+51.1%) and Latvia (+47.0%), and the smallest in Spain (+2.8%) and Hungary (+3.3%).
