According to Italy's national statistics office ISTAT, Italian industry increased its turnover by 2% MoM and by 12.2% YoY in March 2011. Compared to March 2010, the strongest performances in March 2011 were for the chemical industry, up by 28.2% YoY.

In March 2011, the seasonally adjusted turnover index in Italy rose by 7.1% MoM in the energy sector, 3.2% MoM for intermediate goods and 1.6% MoM for consumer goods. Among consumer goods, durable goods decreased by 0.9% MoM, while the turnover index for non durable goods increased by 2.1% MoM. A decrease of 2% MoM was registered for capital goods.

With regard to total orders for Italian industry, there was a MoM increase of 8.1% and a YoY of 21.2% in March 2011.
