Macroeconomic indicators - Romanian industrial production surged in November

The data released by the European Office for Statistics or Eurostat shows that the industrial production grew in 10 European Union member states in November 2011 as compared with November 2010, Romania registering a higher increase than Germany.

According to Eurostat, the highest increases were registered in Poland 9.9%, Latvia 8.5%, the Czech Republic 5.4%, Romania 3.3% and Germany 3.2%. On the other hand, in nine EU member states the industrial production declined on an annual comparison, the steepest drops being registered in Greece minus 8.2% and Spain minus 7%. In terms of annual comparison, the industrial production decreased 0.3% in the euro area and 0.2% in the non euro area.

In November 2011 as compared with November 2010, the industrial production declined 0.1% both in the euro area and in the non euro area, after having registered a 0.3% in both areas in October 2011.

According to the available data, the industrial production increased in nine member states (in Romanian included) and decreased in other 10 member states. The highest increases were registered in the Czech Republic 2.7%, Poland 1.6%, Greece, France and Lithuania, 1.1%. Romania witnessed the smallest industrial production growth in the EU, by 0.3%, same as Italy.

According to the data presented by the National Institute of Statistics, the industrial production (unadjusted series) increased 4.3% in November 2011 from the corresponding month of the previous year. The industrial production as working day and seasonally adjusted series increased in November 2011 as compared with the previous month of the same year enhanced by 0.3% due to the 2.8% growth registered in the production and supply of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning.

The industrial production increased in November 2011 compared with the same month of 2010 both as unadjusted series and as working day and seasonally adjusted series by 4.3% and 3.2% respectively.
