According to statistics, Malaysia imported 164,000 tonnes of scrap in August 2011, down by 1.6% YoY and dropped by 22.6% MoM.

Among them, 103,000 tonnes of scrap was from the US, up by 119.1% MoM; 26,000 tonnes of scrap was from Singapore, increased by 80.4% MoM.

Meanwhile, Malaysia imported 1.385 million tons of scrap in the first eight months of 2011, down by 18.8% YoY.

It is expected that the country's total scrap imports would probably reach 2.08 million tonnes in 2011.
