A minor explosion rattled the Gerdau Ameristeel plant in Selkirk, Manitoba on January 12th 2012. One man, a contractor, was injured.
A spokeswoman for Gerdau said a contractor received minor injuries as a result of the incident and was taken to hospital as a precaution.
She described the accident as a small steam explosion in the mill's melt shop.
The Gerdau spokeswoman said operations will resume when the investigation is complete, but noted the incident isn't expected to have any impact on the company's ability to deliver orders to its customers.
Officials from Manitoba workplace safety and health, the Office of the Fire Commissioner and Gerdau are investigating the incident.
