Malaysia Steel Works Bhd plans to invest MYR 100 million in a new rolling mill to tap into the expected rise in demand for steel products in Malaysia, spurred by the property market boom and mega infrastructure projects in the country such as the Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit.
The steel manufacturer, in a filing to Bursa Malaysia, said the new rolling mill would have an annual production capacity of 180,000 metric tonnes, and would be adjoining the group's existing meltshop at Bukit Raja, Klang, making the plant a fully-integrated steel milling facility.
Masteel currently has a meltshop with an annual capacity of 550,000 tonnes at Bukit Raja that produces upstream billets, and a rolling mill in Petaling Jaya that produces downstream steel bars.
