
Bloomberg quoted Mr Eduardo Solis head of the industry chamber known as AMIA as saying that Mexican auto output fell by 10.4% in April 2011 on factory shutdowns in Japan following the tsunami and productivity lost to the Holy Week vacation.
According to AMIA statistics, auto production of cars and light trucks fell to 152,514. Exports rose 5.9% to 141,338 units.
The Holy Week fell in March 2010, causing an unfavorable comparison this year. Mr Solis said he doesn't expect another production slowdown in 2011.
Mr Guillermo Rosales director of AMDA said that the Mexican auto dealership chamber is maintaining its forecast for as much as 890,000 units sold domestically by year end.
According to the nation's car dealership association or AMDA, domestic sales in April 2011 increased by 8% to 65,246 vehicles. The groups held a joint press conference in Mexico City.
