Mr Francisco Solís commercial director of solar developer Conermex told BNamericas that while lower installation prices have helped make solar more affordable, the industry in Mexico faces some financing challenges.
He said that "What is missing in Mexico to kick-start the market is a financing scheme."
Unlike wind generation, which has seen enthusiasm from international entities like the US Export Import Bank, IDB and World Bank, solar has yet to see heavy interest from similar financing groups.
But Mr Solís says that is changing. He added that "Various banks are approaching me...it won't take long for a financing scheme to be laid out for solar."
Mexico is beginning to see construction of its first large scale solar projects like 25 MW, 45 MW and 50 MW, which should be connected to the grid within two years.
