Mitsui OSK Lines Limited announced that its Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan has been awarded a Statement of Compliance by the international classification society, American Bureau of Shipping.
Effective from December 5th 2011, the certification verifies the plan, including its application for calculating Energy Efficiency Operational Indicator, in accordance with the SEEMP guidance and EEOI guidelines from the International Maritime Organization.
MOL has led in formulating the SEEMP ahead of the IMO adopting the requirement in January 2013. The company has maintained operation schedules while also ensuring safe operations, and is continually pursuing and implementing comprehensive Eco Sailing, a key element of its mid term management plan Gear Up! MOL, while simultaneously undertaking continual improvement through an ongoing PDCA cycle.
The MOL formulated SEEMP is viewed as an effective method to identify problems and confirm the effectiveness of improvements made by introducing its unique EEOI calculation method, in addition to the one guided by the IMO. The plan also features a comprehensive and organic linkage of the application of innovative technologies such as the optimum trim backed by onboard and onshore demonstration tests, the selection of the optimum route using weather information support systems, and the next generation concept vessels project Senpaku ISHIN MOL has been promoting.
The ABS certification reflects an objective evaluation of MOL's energy saving ship operation activities towards achievement of its environmental target of a 10% reduction in CO2 emissions per unit load from FY 2009 to FY 2015.
The MOL Group will continue to evolve as a corporate entity that responds to the demands of the times by providing transport solutions with reduced environmental burden, stressed an official release.
