It is learnt that import offers for flat products have been hiked by Ukrainian and Russian mills lending support to the drive of domestic mills in Europe for maintain their prices.
EU domestic Mills are still quoting and offering same prices of one week ago to coop with still sluggish consumption and demand. ArcelorMittal, Riva, ThyssenKrupp and Salzgitter, as well as all other main EU producers are still carefully tuning offers and delivery time to keep their order books sufficiently supplied.
As a result domestic steel prices are not increasing as much. On the contrary, the weakening exchange rate of EUR to USD is widening the gap with offers from import.
Long products are still suffering of low activity and lack of consumption, as well as of a slight decrease in scrap prices. Turkish exporters have been forced to lower de-bars prices which is creating further decrease to Italian and Spanish producers, already penalized by the weak Euro
In any case, all operators are waiting for Chinese market reopening on Monday to better understand if the upward pace will strengthen or the rumors about Chinese government trying to cool down economy will have an effective impact and determine a U turn in price trend.
