It is reported that in general steel customers in Europe are buying what only strictly needed with demand remaining quite weak although steel mills have gone for major hike in this month.
Financing problems are becoming more and more important with defaulted payments becoming an unfortunate rule.
Credit crunch is becoming deeper with many companies debating between payment defaults and cash flow problems.
As during 2009 - 2011 many producers are again considering closing and cutting down production due to weak demand and negative income.
1. Plates
It is reported that steel plate prices in Europe are picking up again after a long period of inactivity.
India - EUR 570 per tonne to EUR 580 per tonne CFR FO for thickness 10mm to 40mm
Bulgaria - EUR 540 per tonne FOB ST Burgas for thickness 8mm to 40mm in 2000mm width
Romania - EUR 600 per tonne CFR FO
Ukraine - USD 640 per tonne to USD 650 per tonne FOB Mariupol and up to USD 675 per tonne from Odessa. Some material from narrow mills is still available at low level of USD 600 per tonne to USD 610 per tonne FOB Mariupol.
Italy - EUR 620 per tonne to EUR 630 per tonne EXW from mills while distributors are eying EUR 650 per tonne
