It is reported that steel prices in Europe are trying to emerge from the apparent after holiday apathy.
Driven by the further idling of blast furnace and the apparent scarcity of attractive opportunities, buyers are starting to consider increasing prices. But this is mainly true for long products, specifically for billets that are difficult to be found in the demanded quantities.
The after Ramadan expected pick of demand in Iran and other Middle East countries is burning the powders and Black Sea prices start increasing at a quite fast pace. On the other hand in North Europe billets are on the contrary still remaining under Black Sea levels, with Polish suppliers quoting and selling at prices taking the lead.
It is heard that HRC prices are trying to wake up with main EU mills are asking for increases ranging EUR 10 per tonne to EUR 30 per tonne. The first reaction has been quite tepid, as availabilities from import still are wide and competitive. The EUR weakness vs USD might help EU Mills implementing the desired increase.
