In Italy and Spain steel prices are still edging down with extremely low transaction levels.
Every body is trying to minimize purchases as much as possible, trying to keep stock levels at lowest possible level. Demand is remaining very weak and buyers are refusing bookings even at heavily discounted prices.
In general, customers are waiting for further price decreases and the expectation for the first quarter of 2012 is an additional cut of EUR 20 per tonne to EUR 40 per tonne over Q4 prices.
There are growing rumors about financial difficulties hitting many and important SSC and distributors. The consequence is a general feeling of mistrusting. Payment conditions are becoming stricter with the consequence of further transaction decreases.
Also in North Europe the situation is turning to "bad weather", with prices slowly but consistently going in direction to those of South Europe.
