The Hamilton Advertiser reported that Hamilton North and Bellshill MSP Mr Michael McMahon has welcomed the GBP 8 million investment at the Corus steel works at the Dalzell plant in Motherwell.
The money will be used to install a new 3500 tonne press and handling equipment and will provide 60 new job opportunities throughout Lanarkshire.
It is thought 11 new jobs will be at the Dalzell steel mill while also bringing increased employment opportunities to the firm's Clydebridge plant. It is expected that further jobs could be created at the Dalzell plant if the upturn in demand continues.
Mr McMahon, a former steel worker, said that "This announcement is fantastic news for the Scottish steel industry and the workers at Dalzell. I am delighted that Corus is investing in the plant's future and the skills of its workforce."
He added that "I believe the growth of the renewable energy industry, and growing demand for steel in wind developments, means that Scottish steel making has a bright future and these jobs will be sustained for future generations."
