NYK Trading Corporation, a NYK Group company, has connected NYK's largest solar energy generating system to the community's power grid.

The 500 kilowatt system, which is located at a warehouse owned by Yusen Logistics (Americas) Inc in the US state of New Jersey, consists of 6,246 CIS panels made by Solar Frontier KK. The system was installed by Toshiba International Corporation, which is based in the US and is expected to generate about 650,000 kWh of electricity per year.

The system will make use of clean solar energy to power the warehouse, and any surplus electricity will be sold to local power companies. This project is eligible for Solar Renewable Energy Certificates offered by the State of New Jersey as well as a subsidy from the US federal government, and will help promote the use of renewable energy sources.

The NYK Group will continue to actively promote the use of renewable energy globally in accordance with the group's environmental management vision of contributing to the betterment of the global environment and the achievement of a sustainable society, stressed an official release.

CIS stands for the key ingredients copper, indium, and selenium. CIS panels offer a higher performance ratio than crystalline silicon, and compared to other thin film panels, CIS has higher efficiency i.e. the panels produce more energy for every kilowatt peak installed.
