The House of Representatives' Committee on Steel said that to drive the economic and industrial development of Nigeria, the Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited and the National Iron Ore Mining Company must be resuscitated.
Mr Siddique Asema Mohammed chairman of the committee said that a budget proposal of NGN 3 billion for the ministry and its agencies’ capital projects and overhead costs was grossly inadequate.
He said his committee would help ensure appropriate funding for the ministry, stressing that funds have to be appropriated to operationalize the two very important companies in the steel sector so that the billions of naira already expended on establishing the two entities would not be in vain.
In his presentation, the minister appealed to the committee to help the ministry get higher allocation.
