The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure has said that the country's dream of industrial revolution will be a mirage without a robust steel sector.

Mr Dr Mohammed Sani Haruna acting director general of NASENI disclosed that fully made in Nigeria heavy machines and tools would be produced by NASENI in 2014.

He said the agency was set up for the purpose of helping in producing heavy machines and equipment for the industrial sector and it would fully achieve that objective two years from now, adding that many Nigerians are not aware of what NASENI could do for the country.

He said the agency is being repositioned to surpass its goal of making a fully made in Nigeria advance technological machines a reality in 2014.

According to him, the agency has entered into agreement with the Nigerian Machine Tools, Osogbo, to start assembling machines soon.

He also said the agency’s engineers, technicians and technologists would be trained in India next year by a leading machine manufacturer there.

On the four directors that were redeployed in the agency early this year, the acting DG said the redeployed directors were not unjustly redeployed as being speculated by some staff.

He said their re deployment was only to pave way for junior officers to rise and for the system to tap into the wealth of experience of those young officers whose rise to the top may be hampered if the positions are not tenured.
