BBC reported that emergency services have been dealing with a fire at the Llanwern steelworks in Newport. It broke out in one of the operating lines in the TATA owned cold rolling plant.
The alarm was raised just after midnight on December 12th 2011 but the fire was contained and no injuries have been reported.
South Wales Fire and Rescue service is still at the site and the cause is now being investigated.
A TATA spokesman said that "Work on that line has obviously stopped, but there are still other areas on the site still working. There was no risk to the community. The fire was in one of the operating lines at Llanwern. It was controlled by containment."
The spokesman confirmed that the fire was not in the hot strip mill, which was mothballed last week with the loss of 115 contract and agency jobs.
The company employs 1,400 at the plant.
