Reuters reported that Brazilian shipping and logistics companies OSX and LLX, belonging to tycoon Eike Batista, are weighing the possibility of starting a shipyard in Acu in Rio de Janeiro state.
The announcement follows the companies' difficulty in obtaining environmental approval for their proposed shipyard in Biguacu, designed to build offshore oil platforms and tankers. The facility will require an investment of USD 1.7 billion and is planned in partnership with Hyundai Heavy Industries.
OSX said that moving the shipyard to Rio would not alter the project's budget, adding that environmental approval for Acu may not be granted until April 2011.
