ABC reported that a fire at OneSteel's Whyalla steelworks on Friday night started when oil from a faulty hydraulic line ignited.

The Metropolitan Fire Service says the line broke just after 11:00 PM and sprayed oil onto steam heated metal at a generating plant.

A worker in the premises at the time escaped unharmed.

Investigators are still making a full assessment of the damage.

OneSteel says it not expected to affect output or customers.
