Olympia Steel Buildings Canada has recently delivered a 7,298 square feet Olympia Steel Buildings pre engineered steel building to Ontario Power Generation's USD 1 billion project for STRABAG AG in Niagara Falls in Ontario in Canada.

This was the third Olympia steel building ordered by Mr Jaroslav Hajek of STRABAG AG from Olympia Steel Canada. The project is projected to be completed in 2012 or 2013.

The Ontario Government announced approval for Ontario Power Generation to proceed with constructing a third water tunnel under the City of Niagara Falls in 2004 and selected the Austrian company, STRABAG AG to build the USD 600 million dollar hydro energy tunnel. STRABAG AG is also undertaking remedial work on the former Ontario Power Station, the Ontario Power Station Water Intake Gate House and the former Toronto Power Station.

As part of the huge hydroelectric project, STRABAG AG has been required to construct new buildings on the site, and subsequently purchased three Olympia Steel Buildings pre engineered metal buildings from John Montgomery of Olympia Steel Canada.

The new building project is a single slope metal building construction that utilizes the insulated sandwich panel technology for optimum insulation factors and ease of installation.

Mr Hajek said that "We really like the customized design, and it was very price competitive. We were very happy with the delivery time."

The Niagara Tunnel Project is a major clean energy project by Ontario Power Generation, Ontario's publicly owned power utility. The first two tunnels under the city were built during the 1950's. The largest hard rock Tunnel Boring Machine in the world, named Big Becky in honor of Sir Adam Beck, is drilling the third tunnel deep beneath the City of Niagara Falls. The new tunnel will be positioned below the existing tunnels' maximum depth of 100 meters. At 14.4 meters wide and 10.2 kilometers long, the tunnel is expected to be one of the largest tunnels built in North America.

Ontario Power Generation’s Niagara Tunnel will divert water from the Niagara River and carry it downstream to the Sir Adam Beck Generating Stations. The new Niagara Tunnel will allow Ontario Power Generation to generate an additional 1.6 billion kilowatt hours of electricity annually enough to meet the electricity needs of about 160,000 homes for the next hundred years.
