VNS reported that Vietnam's POMINA group launched South East Asia's largest steel mill in the southern province of Ba Ria Vung Tau.

According to the group, the USD 300 million POMINA Mill No 3 at the Phu My Industrial Zone in Tan Thanh District, the group's third steel mill in Viet Nam, will be able to produce 1 million tonnes of steel each year.

The plant is equipped with modern facilities that ensure energy efficiency and environmentally friendly production.

The group said that the mill will only require 350 kwh of power to make one tonne of steel, down from 420 kwh as required at other facilities.

The group said its mill would help make local steel production more competitive and reduce imports of embryonic steel for the construction industry, with savings for domestic industry estimated at USD 300 million.
