POSCO has announced that its officials have visited the Nidec Corporation and Toyota in Japan to benchmark their M&A strategies and management philosophy and to learn how the two companies standardized them. Executives and employees of POSCO's department of Human Resource participated in the tour.
Under the slogan 'Do it immediately, do it for sure, and do it until it gets done', Nidec has been building its corporate structure to nurture talented employees by encouraging them to have a challenging spirit and to take action. POSCO officials learned that Nidec's federal type M&A methods were the key to the company's success. In this method, the company confers independent management rights on the acquired firm but makes sure to hold it accountable.
During a visit to Toyota, POSCO officials benchmarked its QSS activities, the spread of the Toyota Way, and examples of nurturing experts. In particular, they listened to detailed explanations on how to apply the standardized work of manufacturing to office work, how to manage it, and how to help employees become leaders and to think for themselves. They also learned about Toyota's product development process, which is known to have the shortest lead time.
POSCO participants are planning to reflect on what they learned from Japanese firms when they draw up POSCO's standardization plans, nurture talented employees, and disseminate the company's management principles.
