POSTECH, which opened an overseas office in Beijing last year, opened a new office at Hanoi in Vietnam, accelerating its pace of globalization. It was the first time for an Asian university to open an office in Vietnam.
On May 18, the school had an opening celebration of the Hanoi office at the POSCO E&C Hanoi Representative Office, which will house the new POSTECH office. Fifty VIPs including President Baek Sung-gi of POSTECH, professors of the school and officers from the Vietnamese Education Ministry and colleges participated in the event.
Mr Baik said that “It is impossible to become a world-class university without achieving a high level of globalization. We will seek to globalize POSTECH further through our overseas offices, while contributing to fostering non governmental diplomacy between Korea and Vietnam.”
Mr Baik and his fellow professors, on May 17 and 18, signed an MOU with Hanoi University of Technology, Hanoi University of Science, HCMC University of Science and HCMC University of Technology for academic exchanges, and discussed ways to enhance collaboration with them.
POSTECH is expected to strengthen its academic ties with major Vietnamese colleges through the new office, which in return will attract talented students from Southeast Asia to POSTECH. To this end, the school plans to enhance scholarship opportunities and upgrade curriculum for distinguished students from Vietnam and other countries.
The school also expects that the new office will solidify the school’s global networks. It is scheduled to open an Indian office in October.
