POSTECH announced on December 14th 2010 that its research teams were selected among the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology's top 100 research achievers for the National Research & Development Project.

Six POSTECH research teams were nominated, the largest among other institutions. The winners, who were awarded for their R&D projects sourced by the government in 2009, included Mr Lee Jin won (Mechanical Engineering), Mr Cho Dong woo (Integrative Biosciences & Biotechnology), Mr Cho Moon ho (Material Science and Engineering), Mr Choi Hee cheul (Chemistry), Mr Lee Young sook (Life Science) and Mr Chang Yoon seok (Environmental Science and Engineering).

Professor Lee Jin won's team used nano particle beams to develop nano level contamination removal technology, while Mr Cho Dong woo's team developed 3D chronoscopic bio scaffold technology to reproduce body organs.

Mr Cho Moon ho's team succeeded in developing technology for the large scale assembly of silicon nano wire and Mr Choi Hee cheul's team synthesized square nano tubes made of porphyrin. Mr Lee Young suk's team pioneered the discovery of plant hormone transporters that support plants in enduring unfavorable environments, while Mr Chang Yoon seok's team was awarded for its achievements in developing nano bio convergence systems for processing toxic material.

The Top 100 Research Achievements for the National Research & Development Project was founded to promote public interest in science and technology. The research projects, which are conducted under 16 government agencies, are reviewed by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology. This year, 328 projects were awarded. Research results can be viewed via a casebook, online or at a poster exhibition.
