On January 13th 2012, employees of PT Krakatau POSCO had visited a flood hit area near the construction site for a new integrated steel mill and volunteered their time to aid in flood recovery.
Among some 60 participants of the activity were mayor of Cilegon, the city in which the company is based and Krakatau Steel's executive director in charge of external affairs. They labored together to repair houses and clean up streets in an effort to help flood victims regain control of their daily lives.
A number of villages in the Ciwandan area, including Kubansari and Samang Raya were damaged severely by the flood, which was caused by heavy rains that battered the region for four days from January 9th 2012.
Meanwhile, the company's headquarters sent relief kits to help with the immediate needs of the flood victims, which included bags of rice and instant noodles, along with money donated by the company's employees.
Company officials said that "PT Krakatau POSCO will continue to serve local communities it is based on, as a corporate member of the communities."
