The Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors said that sales of car importers in September 2012 declined by 9% YoY, owing to supply setbacks in the passenger car category.

Avid said that its members sold 1,887 units in September 2012, down from 2,066 vehicles in the same month last year. Avid said despite the September 2012 slump, sales in the first nine months of 2012 grew 20% YoY to 21,762 units from 18,086 during the same period last year.

A larger group of car assemblers and importers, the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc, reported earlier that its sales increased 2.8% to 12,856 units in September 2012 and 6% to 111,582 vehicles in the nine month period.
Ms Ma Fe Perez Agudo president of Avid said that she remained optimistic on the prospects in the remainder of the year. She added that "We are proud to remain a bright spot in overall industry performance. Despite the ups and downs of the global economy, the local business and economic environment has kept a steady, upbeat pace, which augurs very well for all Avid members."
