The Daily Independent reported that the union representing hourly employees at AK Steel's Ashland Works says it intends to pursue a grievance it hopes will prevent the company from idling the plant for the balance of the year, which the company says it intends to do this summer.
Mr Doug Campbell, president of Local 1865 said “Under the terms of its contract with United Steelworkers of America Local 1865, AK Steel cannot shut down the Ashland workers while keeping its sister plant in Middletown operating.”
