
The disposal of contaminated dust at the site of the company Duferco La Louviere began Tuesday, eight days after infection with an oven by a radioactive source which had suspended the activities of electric steel production,
Duferco has worked with the expert approved Controlatom Tecnubel and society, a specialist in the decontamination of industrial plants to determine the best course of action to remove contaminated dust. Last Thursday, it was heard that a slight excess of standards of radioactivity detected on the installation of dust. It was a cesium-137 contamination.
It is reported that after the radioactivity warning triggered last week, workers from the Duferco La Louviere are reassured that their health will not be disturbed by the incident that is still blocking the production of electrical steel. The 16 workers who could have been in contact with the installation or dust all underwent a medical examination. No abnormalities were detected.
The activities of electric steel production are halted and resumption schedule is not known.
