Radius Steel Fabrication - SOO Tractor, a leader in the steel fabrication industry, announced that it has been awarded an agreement by the #1 side dump manufacturer SmithCo Mfg Co, to build steel components for trailers specifically designed to meet the payload requirements for the Canadian mining industry.
Founded in 1994, SmithCo Manufacturing holds 50% of the side dump trailer market share in the United States. The company produces and sells more side dump trailers and side dump trailer models than any other manufacturer. Sizes range from 8 feet truck mounted dump boxes to 100 tonne off road side dump trailers.

Radius Steel - SOO Tractor's owner, Mr Allen Mahaney, together with the company's engineering department, designed a custom weld fixture that will attach to the hydraulic roll over positioner. Not only does it reduce the welding time of each component by over two hours, but this versatile device takes into consideration the worker’s ergonomic position.
Mr Allen Mahaney said that "There are several hours of welding involved in the making of each component. We value our employees. With the best ergonomic position in mind, the roll over positioner safely raises the work to the worker instead of the worker bending towards the work, reducing stress and strain on one's body."
One of SmithCo's Canadian mining industry customers needed a large number of side dump trailer doubles to meet the payload requirements of a lighter, less dense material. SmithCo quickly responded to their need with a shorter yet higher capacity side dump trailer design. Side dump trailers are widely used by road and building contractors, aggregate producers, demolition contractors, the agriculture industry, governmental bodies and in the waste handling, environmental clean up and erosion control industry.
Mining development projects are typically done in rugged remote territories. SmithCo has expanded its large range of on highway trailers into the mining industry with off road trailers in the 50 to 100 tonne range. Doubles are also available.
