
Two years ago, Mr Marles Jimenez demonstrated against the proposed development of Resolution Copper mine by Rio Tinto and BHP Billiton.
The mining site, more than a mile above the largest known copper reserve in North America, is also adjacent to Apache Leap, a majestic jutting cliff of rocks.
According to legend, Apache warriors, under attack at dawn by the US Cavalry, chose to jump to their deaths from the cliff rather than be captured. Mine opponents like Mr Jimenez, who says he is one eighth Apache and an environmentalist, feared that drilling for copper nearby.
