Mr Michael Ochialbescu director of Maritime Danube Ports Administration Galati said that Ports Docks from Galati but also in Braila and Tulcea may go bankrupt by the end unless there is a revival of activity in the port area.

He said that the first two months of the year were operated by Maritime Danube ports around 1,300,000 tonnes, of which around 750,000 only ore port, only one has a constant operating activity. The difference of 550,000 tonnes was operated by Ports Docks, New Basin, in Galati, and those in Braila and Tulcea.

Mr Ochialbescu said that at the Port Galati, including ore ports, docks and New Basin, have operated since the beginning of around 800,000 tonnes of cargo, of which only 750,000 ore port.

He added that "Currently, the port of Galati 90% live in the Port of ore. Ore port is one that has a very intense activity, has a steady traffic, the other ports are not up to normal traffic and should be a warning, because you can not stay with one sort of cargo, that profile metal and metallurgical products, in a port as Galati, or the entire maritime Danube. If further bolsters what has happened in the first two months it is possible that the other ports do not deal with at the end of the year, as the loss came last year, leaving a loss this year, and perhaps that is will come out from bankruptcy."

Mr Ochialbescu said that the projected tonnage operated in 2010 in five Danube ports was estimated by existing work effectively in ports. So this year, is expected to operate approximately 5,000,000 to 6,000,000 tonnes ore cargo in the port and only 1,500,000 tonnes in all the other four ports combined. The activity of the Port ore, steel mill ArcelorMittal Galati for more than half of the Danube Maritime port activity.
