SeaTac Steel Mill and Recycling Services, a subsidiary of the Edw C Levy Co of Detroit, is the first slag processor in the steel industry that has been approved for participation in the Voluntary Protection Program which recognizes a commitment to safety and health by Washington State's Department of Labor and Industries.

VPP is a program of the federal Occupation Safety and Health Administration but in Washington State is administered by the Department of Labor and Industries. To participate in VPP companies must have an excellent safety record.

Mr John Guydan VP of Steelmaking Services said that "We are extremely proud of this recognition. For the Edw C Levy Co and all of its operations, safety always has been and always will be an important value. We are delighted that WSDLI has recognized all our efforts and we are grateful for this honor."

Mr Guydan said that the Levy Company worked with its client, Nucor Steel Seattle Inc to achieve the safety record recognized by WSDLI. He added that "We have developed a great team and this is a great accomplishment for all of us. You cannot accomplish such an achievement without exceptional employees and the assistance, cooperation and commitment of clients such as Nucor Steel."
