
The Jakarta Post reported that Japanese electronics giant Sharp has sealed a deal at the ASEAN Summit in Bali to invest USD 1 billion in solar cell technology in Indonesia.
Mr Jero Wacik energy and mineral resources minister said that "Sharp has assessed that our country has been blessed with sunlight throughout the years. This has a great potential that is waiting to be explored."
Sharp currently has a pilot project in Thailand with 160 hectares of solar cell panels that generate up to 73 MWs for 23 US cents per kilowatt hour.
He added that "We'll discuss the details in upcoming meetings."
