It is reported that a GBP 80 million school built by Shepherd Construction in west London has missed its opening date by two months.
Pupils at Holland Park School should have moved into their new building last month. But Kensington and Chelsea council said schoolchildren will have to be taught in temporary classrooms until next month because of construction delays caused by a steel subcontractor going bust.
A Shepherd spokesperson told the Enquirer that "The collapse of the steel contractor resulted in a short delay in the construction program which completed in September 2012. Working closely with the local authority and the school a decision was taken a while ago to put back the transfer of staff and pupils into the new school until half term. Until then the school is operating from the high quality temporary accommodation that they transferred into when building work first began so disruption has been kept to a minimum. The local authority and school are delighted with the new facilities and they now have a fantastic state of the art school that will benefit the local community across future generations."
