According to Logistics Finland referring to Germany's Federal Statistics Office, the amount of cargo transported on the German rail network decreased by 21.2% YoY to 74.7 million tonnes in the Q1 of 2009 as compared to the same period a year before. The decrease in terms of tonne kilometers corresponded to 21.7%.

In January 2009, the amount of cargo tonnage transported on the German rail network fell by 27.9%. In February 2009, the decrease corresponded to 20.6% and in March 2009 to 14.8%.
