According to the data of ANOFM, the unemployment rate in August 2009 stood at 6.6% as compared with 6.3% in July 2009 and 3.8% in the same month of 2008. The total number of unemployed registered in the papers of the county employment agencies stood at 601,673 people and 265,946 of them were women.

The highest unemployment rate was registered in the county of Vaslui (12.5%) and the lowest in the county of Arges (8.2%).

From the total of registered unemployed at national level, 321, 294 were people collecting unemployment benefits, 280,979 jobless who not collecting such benefits. The unemployment rate among women was of 6.3%.
