
The National Statistics Institute said that the volume of construction works decreased by 17.2% YoY in first eight months of 2010 as compared with the similar period of 2009.
Between January 1st 2010 and August 31st 2010, new construction works dropped by 24.7% and capital repair works went down by 10.3% in comparison with the similar period of the year before. The amount of maintenance and current repair works increased by 7.9%.
By construction objects, the volume of construction works witnessed an overall decrease: 37.4% for residential buildings; 21.6% for non residential buildings and 3.9% for engineering works.
Compared with the same period of 2009, the volume of construction works expressed as series adjusted to the number of workdays and seasonality decreased 16.1% in the first eight months of 2010; in a breakdown by construction categories, the drop was 26.1% for new constructions and 14.56% for capital repair works. There was a 15.5% increase in maintenance and current repair works.
By construction objects, the entire industry underwent a setback as follows: minus 38.1% for residential buildings; minus 22.6% for non residential buildings and minus 2.3% for engineering works.
