South Africa's Solidarity union said on Friday that it has accepted the latest wage offer by Africa's biggest iron ore producer Kumba Resources. Solidarity union represents white supervisor level staff.
Mr Reint Dyekama spokesman for Solidarity, which had some 1 500 members on strike at Kumba, said its members had returned to work at 06:00 GMT. He said "Our members will only do their own work, not the work meant to be done by those still on strike." Mr Dyekama said there had been some resistance to Kumba's latest offer by its members working at the company's Sishen iron ore mine, but the members there agreed to go by the majority vote.
Mr Eddie Majadibodu chief negotiator for the National Union of Mineworkers which has about 4 000 mostly black workers in the strike at Kumba said "Were still on strike."
