According to report of Korea Iron & Steel Association, South Korea produced 16.56 million tonnes of crude steel in the Q1 2011, up by 21.1% YoY. Also, it hit the record highs.
KOSA indicated that Hyundai Steel’s two blast furnaces started to run the full capacity in last year and it pushed up the country’s crude steel production widely in this Q1.
Besides, KOSA predicted in last December that South Korea’s crude steel production in the entire 2010 would reach record highs to 64.31 million tonnes, including 39.65 million tonnes from blast furnace and 24.66 million tonnes from electric furnace.
The country’s rising crude steel production was contributed by the commission of Hyundai Steel’s No 2 blast furnace and POSCO’s new steel plant.
