According to the Korea Iron and Steel Association, South Korea imported 8,625,927 tonnes of steel scrap in 2011, up by 6.6% YoY.

In the given year, South Korea imported

2,962,783 tonnes or 34.3% from Japan, down by 11.8% YoY
2,796,713 tonnes or 32.4% from the US, down by 2.3% YoY
1,009,384 tonnes or 11.7% from Russia, up by 29.2% YoY

In December 2011 alone, South Korea's imports of steel scrap totaled 726,705 tonnes, down by 2.1% MoM but up by 14.5% YoY. The average import price for steel scrap in December 2011 was USD 528 per tonne CFR.
