Baltimore Business Journal reported that shrouded in secrecy, the former Bethlehem Steel Co's Sparrows Point steel mill was auctioned on August 7th 2012, but neither the company nor its attorneys or the steelworkers' union will say who bought it.

The Sun, citing a source familiar with the proceedings, reported that the auction was held in the afternoon. The report said that "However no details have been filed with the US Bankruptcy Court, and it may be days before any appear there."
