Steel processing company Blue Tee Corporation has agreed to pay the US Environmental Protection Agency more than USD 3 million for the cleanup of the site of a former mine contaminated with lead and other toxic chemicals.
In a consent decree lodged alongside a complaint in federal court, Blue Tee agreed to cover past and future costs of remediation at the Newton County Mine Tailings Superfund Site in southwestern Missouri.
The 160 square mile site was home to mining and milling operations by Blue Tee's predecessor.
