AP reported that Steel Dynamics plans to spend USD 18.5 million on expanding and buying new equipment for a northeastern Indiana plant that is the company's largest.

The Fort Wayne based company has told DeKalb County officials that it plans to start construction this summer on the project at the factory in the city of Butler and have work finished within a year.

The Star of Auburn reports that the company's property tax abatement application says it will spend USD 6.7 million in a building addition and USD 11.8 million in new equipment, including cranes and coil handling machinery.

About 630 people now work at the mill some 25 miles north of Fort Wayne and the company says it could add about 15 jobs with the expansion.
