
According to the latest data released by the Swedish Steel Producers' Association, Swedish crude steel production amounted to 373,300 tonnes in December 2011, decreasing by 4.5% YoY but up 8.1% MoM.
Meanwhile, in the whole year of 2011, Swedish crude steel production totaled 4,866,200 tonnes, with a slight increase of 0.4% compared to 2010.
Jernkontoret indicates that Swedish steel companies have focused production on more advanced steel qualities. In Sweden, at present around 60% of the total production comprises alloy steel which also includes stainless steels. In the rest of the EU, as well as in the USA and Japan, alloy steels only comprise 10% to 15% of steel production.
