Steel giant TATA has revealed it had sealed a contract with a car firm that will help secure more than 900 jobs in the West Midlands. The company, which has tripled its profits, has signed a deal to provide car parts for a new UK made model.
It is expected to create new work for the former Corus Steelpark plant in Wednesfield, which is home of the company’s specialist automotive operation and employs 400.
As it revealed profits for the last three months of GBP 737 million, Indian owned TATA said it would be supplying 34 of 36 unique parts for the new model.
Secrecy over the deal means the name of the car firm is being kept under wraps, but the deal provides a positive sign for manufacturing in the West Midlands.
