
It is reported that TATA Steel, which operates the former Corus plant in Workington, has been accused of failing to keep its staff safe after two workers were injured.
Mr Anthony Ryecroft of Cockermouth and Mr Geoffrey Anderson of Workington, both suffered broken legs in an accident involving a falling roller door at the Corus plant in Curwen Road on April 20th 2009.
The firm faces prosecution under the Health and Safety at Work Act. It is accused of failing to ensure the health, safety and welfare at work of all its employees, including Mr Ryecroft and Mr Anderson from risks associated with the maintenance and repair of a roller shutter door.
The case was adjourned by West Cumbria magistrates and the firm is due to enter a plea on December 22nd 2011.
