
According to Taiwanese customs statistics made available in Tokyo, Taiwan's ferrous scrap imports totalled 370,000 tonnes in August 2009, down by 39.6% YoY and up by 18.6% MoM.
In January to August 2009 period, Taiwan's ferrous scrap imports totalled 2,220,000 tonnes, down by 53.5% YoY, averaging 278,000 tonnes per month, when they translated into an annualized level of 3,330,000 tonnes, a low level for the first time in 6 years since 2003.
In the breakdown by main sources, the USA ranked first at 1,140,000 tonnes or 51.4% of the total, down by 51.4% YoY, Japan second at 313,000 tonnes or 14.1%, up by 74.7% YoY and Australia third at 85,000 tonnes or 4%, up by 41.9% YoY.
