According to statistics, Taiwan imported 5.33 million tonnes of scrap in 2011, down slightly by 1% YoY from 5.4 million tonnes in 2010.

Among them, the US scrap acquired 61% market share in Taiwan in 2011, totaling 3.25 million tonnes.

Meanwhile, the imports of heavy melted scrap totaled 5.02 million tonnes in 2011, keeping flat from a year earlier. The average import prices were at TWD 13,333 per tonne, rising by TWD 1,347 per tonne from TWD 11,986 per tonne in 2010.

In 2011, Taiwan's imports of stainless scrap totaled 300,000 tonnes, decreasing by 19% from 370,000 tonnes in 2010. The average import prices of stainless scrap dropped by TWD 1,080 per tonne to TWD 67,839 per tonne.
